The art of starting the Climb
It’s one of those days where you woke up unable to breathe and choking on the block of tears that formed and hardened during the night. One of those moments in life where the future seems murky and uncertain, and it’s all you can do to refrain yourself from grabbing a blanket and curling up into a ball in the corner. Loosing control isn’t an option. It’s one of those days that you’re told will come that’s supposed to make you stronger and define your character, the day where strength is supposed to shine in through the ray of sunshine that broke through the clouds and give you some supernatural peace about moving forward. It’s that strength that’s laced through the ray of sun that’s supposed to give you a sense of direction, a brilliant idea of what to do next. When that strength doesn’t magically find you, how do you deal?
I remember some of the first moments like that; the one where you think your dad is superman, until you realize he doesn’t have all the answers or the cape that gives him superhero abilities. The moment where you realize your family is fraying at the seams about to fall apart. The first time you had your heart broken, and you lie at night underneath your blanket wishing its warmth would spread to your heart and mend it together with the same power it had to scare away the monsters from underneath your bed. Then you remember hearing that a broken heart only makes you stronger; leaving you wondering if hearts were made whole just to break.
That morning where anxiety rests heavily upon your chest, causing you to breathe heavily and shaky. As soon as you open your eyes you can feel the gloominess hanging in the atmosphere underneath the dark gray clouds. The air is moist and drizzles, reflecting the atmosphere of your soul. From that moment on, all day it’s a struggle to maintain composure and hold it all together. Even when the tears are stinging the back of your eyelids, pushing their way to spill over the edge, you have to find some way to keep your mind off those stinging tears and their source.
